There are many homages to thrilling tales of espionage which govern the game. Objectives featured in the current build all include certain giveaways that the Sniper can look for and deduce the character isn't being controlled by the artificial intelligence routines. Likewise if the Sniper starts to lose their cool and shoots a civilian, it's an automatic win for the Spy. The Spy will lose if just one of their missions are left incomplete, giving the Sniper a hollow victory. Rounds are timed, and as the clock winds down to zero both players grow less cautious. She shows the slightest hint of acknowledgement and I move on.

I politely interject as the waiter offers refreshments and deliver my coded message. I amble over towards the double agent's group, playing the lush, and appear interested in the ongoing conversation. My contact has been here a while it would seem. I should be able to plant the device if I can get close enough. The Ambassador, being such a prominent figure, is known to everybody in the room and the other guests orbit him as they eat, drink and be merry. I work my way around the room, mingling and musing. Simple walking, gestures and context-sensitive actions must all be performed during a round convincingly, otherwise the 'tell' will literally give the game away. The Spy has to move throughout a confined area and mimic the behaviour shown by the artificially intelligent characters. Almost instantly, both players are fooled into thinking 'what are they going to do or look for' instead of getting on with their task. The Spy moves their chosen avatar from a third person perspective, while the Sniper is allowed a great deal of free-movement from afar with a first-person view of the same area.

As it stands, two players log in and after a few parameters are set, they are thrown into a match. I also know there is no backing out, no room for error, and no escape. I knew this from the outset of course, the shooter will have no trouble with accuracy but doesn't know what I look like. My opposite number is out there, with a plum view of the whole blasted floor. Or I can blend in with the other guests and try to accomplish my objectives.

I abort now and escape with my neck intact. SpyParty has a very stylised look with simple, exaggerated characters.
